Welcome to the Club
1919 – a bunch of sailors from the Alsterpiraten, the youth group of the north German Regatta Club, decided to play field hockey during the winter. In order to do so they founded „Der Club an der Alster“ on 28th of november 1919. The name was chosen – it is said in the founding documents – „because as a sailor you had it with the Alster“.

The founders' intention was to play hockey, but already 1927 there was a tennis division found. From that day on the Club is in a consistent advancement, ready to walk new paths and expand it’s range of sports within the financialy achievable. Our goal is to achieve the optimum for every member, in high-performance and mass sports as well as in all the other fields we offer, always enduring our club tradition. With this in mind during the last 90 years, the club established itself in the heart of Hamburg.

Hockey on the highest level
In "Der Club an der Alster" hockey is played at the highest level. Titles such as "German Champion Field," "German Champion Hall" or "German Cupwinner", but also international titles such as European Cupwinner of field hockey. In indoor hockey the teams have already won a lot of titles over the past years, sometimes more than once. With the dedicated youth work, which currently has over 450 active players, they want to enlarge the top position in German Hockey. The experienced coaches always get support of the athletes. At the facilities at the Rothenbaum and Wellingsbüttel they offer the best conditions for indoor and field hockey. Numerous recreational teams regularly play there and shape the club life in a very special way.
